Ninety years rooted in Colby, Kansas
Since 1935, Trinity has gathered this community around Word and Sacrament — and sent that faith back out into Colby and beyond.
Organized December 31, 1935
Trinity Lutheran Church was organized on December 31, 1935, as a congregation of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod in the Kansas District, Circuit 015. Ninety years later, the congregation still gathers on the same two convictions it was founded on: that God’s Word is living and active, and that a small prairie town deserves a church that shows up, week after week.
That is not a statistic we are guessing at — it is stamped on our own congregation seal, right alongside the cross that has marked our building for generations, and confirmed independently on the LCMS congregation locator.

Trinity is organized
Congregation founded in Colby, Kansas, and welcomed into the LCMS Kansas District, Circuit 015.
Sunday School and confirmation carry the faith forward
Decades of Sunday School classes, confirmation instruction, and Bible study have passed the faith from parents to children in this building.
Pastor Philip Hoppe begins serving Trinity
Installed January 16, 2022, Pastor Hoppe — a Concordia Seminary, St. Louis graduate — continues Trinity’s preaching and teaching ministry alongside his wife Jaimee and their eight children. He now also serves the Kansas District as Fourth Vice-President for Region 4.
Ninety years later, still gathering
Two services every weekend, nine active ministries, and a congregation that still believes Colby is worth showing up for.
Faith that reaches beyond Colby
Trinity’s LWML group — the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League — is a group of ladies who serve the Lord with gladness in our congregation and support mission projects here and abroad. They meet the second Monday of each month at 7:00 PM, and everyone is welcome to join them.
It is a small, specific example of something we believe deeply: being part of Trinity means being part of something bigger than any one Sunday — a congregation that has spent ninety years turning worship into service, in Colby and beyond it.
And if you have ever wandered around Colby and spotted a small painted rock with Trinity’s name on it — that is us too. It is one small, ongoing way we like to say hello to our neighbors.
